Lando Norris just pipped team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the dying seconds of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix. Norris, who seized the championship lead from Piastri by a single point after winning in Mexico City two weeks ago, topped the Australian by 0.023 seconds. Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before sprint qualifying scheduled for 18:30 GMT. Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in realistic title contention, trailing with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, was classified in 17th position as his Red Bull team opted for a alternative strategy. Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to crash, though minor, when he rotated at the fourth corner early in the session. Tsunoda lost control over the exit kerbs before rotating through the run-off area, and was blessed to avoid just a light touch of the barrier. Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the very end of the session, spinning around through the fast downhill corner before the final bend on to the start-finish straight. Hamilton ended the session in P19, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc. Norris and Piastri were far ahead of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber P3, 0.619secs off the Australian's time. The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
